Bottom current control on sediment deposition between the Iselin Bank and the Hillary Canyon (Antarctica) since the late Miocene: An integrated seismic-oceanographic approach

In this paper we analyze how oceanic circulation affects sediment deposition along a sector of the Ross Sea continental margin, between Iselin Bank and Hillary Canyon, these processes evolved since Late Miocene. The Canyon is one few places around Antarctic margin where dense waters produced onto shelf, mainly through brine rejection related to sea ice production, flow down slope reach deep bottom layer. At same time represents pathway for relatively warm waters, normally flowing within Slope Current, shelf. intrusion shelf produces basal melting shelves, reduces their buttressing effect triggers instabilities sheet that represent main uncertainties in future level projections.
